AI is not only making existing work faster. Lower implementation cost changes which ideas become thinkable enough to test.
TL;DR
One human is deliberately moving parts of cognition outside himself — and watching what comes back different.
Lifted is a longitudinal experiment in what happens when AI becomes part of a human operating system rather than a tool used occasionally. It studies the combined system: human, machine, handoffs and contact with reality.
Six observations survive most of the compression.
As shared context grows, prompts can shrink. The missing specification increasingly lives in state, artifacts and history.
The same context that creates leverage can create distortion: stale assumptions, over-inference, agreement, protocol drift and misplaced confidence.
Externalizing research, retrieval, continuity and preparation reduces unresolved cognition carried into moments where human judgment matters.
There is no permanent division of labor. The role should follow the strongest evidence: sometimes the human has the better view; sometimes the machine does.
Analysis, recall, comparison and portions of judgment can be shared. Authorization, commitment and responsibility remain with the human.
The experiment moved through four overlapping stages.
Externalize
Move memory, research, synthesis, implementation and cognitive housekeeping outside the human where useful.
Integrate
Let shared state carry more of the specification. Shorter prompts become possible because the loop remembers where the work is.
Govern
Define action boundaries, evidence hierarchy and activation discipline so speed does not quietly become authority.
Return
Watch for externally surfaced patterns reappearing later in human perception and reasoning. Extension may also function as training.
What appears to be changing.
Ideas wait in notes.
→Ideas become prototypes inside the thinking process.
The prompt carries the specification.
→The prompt is one layer of a larger shared state.
The human reconstructs operational context.
→The loop carries continuity between moments of action.
AI is evaluated as a tool.
→The human–AI loop becomes the unit of analysis.
Execution cost filters ideas.
→Selection, activation and governance become stronger filters.
Cognition moves outward.
→Some of it may return as changed human perception.
Use the better view. Keep the author human.
Lifted is not trying to prove that AI makes a human better. It is trying to observe what actually changes when cognition becomes distributed — including the new capabilities, the new failure modes, and the boundary between assistance and authorship.
